Although delegating is a buzz word, don’t make these mistakes when doing so.
Simplify Your Processes
Review your workflow and processes to simplify them. If you are the only one capable of performing a simple, routine task because you overcomplicated the process, then simplify it. Start with writing down each step, make sure each step is clear, and eliminate any unnecessary steps.
Trying to Duplicate You
Don’t try to get someone to be another version of you, which is the hardest person to duplicate. Rather, look for the tasks that are most easily delegated and start with those. You’ll find it easier to delegate aspects of your responsibilities than all of your responsibilities.
Go Slow
Delegate slowly. For example, if you are looking to delegate five of your major responsibilities, then start with one, monitor the progress, make adjustments, and then delegate the next responsibility once the first one is under control. We have a tendency to try and dump too many things on another person at one time, which almost never works out.
