3 Ways to Get More Done

November 21, 2025 by Joseph Belbol

Ever feel like you just can’t get anything completed and there’s a lot of unfinished work outstanding? There are 3 simple tactics you can implement right now to get more done.

Start

It sounds surprisingly simple, but one of the most effective actions you can take is to get started. The reason is because many people are very poor at starting a task and delay, delay and then delay some more. However, once you start on a task, it creates the momentum to finish it.

Remove Distractions

Although technology is supposed to make us more efficient, it also acts as a major distraction. Between emails, alerts on our phones (apps, messages, etc.), and other distractions, it never seems to end. Some effective ways of reducing the distractions are:

  1. Do not always have your email open and visible while you are working.
  2. Turn off all alerts on your phone, stop alerts on as many apps as possible, or put your phone on silent. Then, turn your phone face down so you do not see the silent alerts.
  3. Change your environment, such as working in the office versus working remotely. Although both provide distractions, our homes usually have more.

Complete Your Tasks

Take things to completion. It is amazing how many times tasks and requests are fulfilled, but not quite all the way. It’s as though we are wired to leave things slightly unfinished. Unfortunately, by keeping tasks open or not fully completing them (another word for this is half-assed), it takes an extraordinary amount of additional time to go back to that existing task or fix up the uncompleted work. By the way, this is prevalent among virtually all professions.
